Community Development Strategies
Community Development Strategies (CDSs) are documents produced by the communities we work with, with the support of CCODE and the Federation of the Rural and Urban Poor. The CDSs are a tool for guiding communities in the developments and upgrading of their settlements.
A Community Development Strategy for Senti, Lilongwe
We, the residents of Senti after we discovered that we have a number of development challenges in our area, we sat down to discuss ways of mitigating these challenges. It is against this background that we have developed this development strategy which outlines the projects we have agreed to implement beginning this year (2014) onwards.
A Community Development Strategy for Mgona, Lilongwe
We, the residents of Mgona, after we realized that we have a number of development challenges in our area, we collectively found it necessary to find remedies to the problems. To this end, we have had discussions on how best to overcome these challenges. It is during these discussions that we developed a community development strategy that will be a blueprint of all the activities which will be carried out in various projects which commence this year of 2014.
A Community Development Strategy for Mgomani, Lilongwe
Ngomani is a community found in the city of Lilongwe. It is an area which has recently urbanised and is characterised by unplanned settlements. The residents of the area earn a living by doing some small business though a small population has formal employment. Access to important social services like portable clean water, schools, good roads and health clinics are among the challenges the area has been experiencing. It light of these problems the area was targeted as a beneficiary of the community development projects which have been planned to be undertaken beginning this year onwards.
A Community Development Strategy for Kauma, Lilongwe
Kauma is one of the undeveloped settlements found in Lilongwe. Precisely, the area is located in East of City Centre. Due to its proximity to developed areas like Area 10, 11 12, and 43, most of its people are employed as watchmen and domestic workers, and others are involved in farming activities. The area is under the leadership of Village Headman Kauma who is assisted by some junior chiefs namely; chief Kamkota, Kumalambo, Kalemga, Mwesambala, Mtola, Nkhumbu, Khoswe and Kachiyundu.
A Community Development Strategy for Likotima, Blantyre
Likotima is an area located at the North of Limbe town in Blantyre, It is surrounded by areas such as Sochi in its south and Chiswe at the east, and Ntambo village at the North. This area is under the leadership of Group village headman Likotima. Access to important social services like portable clean water, schools, good roads and health clinics are among the challenges the area has been experiencing.
A Community Development Strategy for Mtopwa, Blantyre
Mtopwa is located at a distance of about 1.5 kilometers in north Limbe town. At the east of the area is Lichenza River, at the north there is Mpigwe road. According to recent research done by the residents in conjunction with Federation for Urban and poor the area has an estimated population of 2190 of which 1173 are males and 1017 are females.
A Community Development Strategy for Ndirande, Blantyre
Ndirande is one of the most populated areas found in Blantyre city. Most of the residents of the area are undeveloped and their community lacks a number of basic services necessary for a comfortable living. It is against this backdrop that the community members began to conduct meetings which resulted into the formulation of a community development strategy which outlines the strategic plan that will be followed in a number of development activities aimed at developing the area.
